The need for such a day was felt by several unions in the midst of Spring 2007, at the International Meeting “I07” in Paris. It is not in the interest of capitalists, churches, armies nor despots to emancipate peoples. They try and destroy public education and apprenticeship utilities wherever they work. Lost in a forest of fluorescent consumerism, social revolution is probably the furthest thing from your mind. Indeed, many activists are dismissive not only of the corporations that monopolize our landscape, but of the radical potential (...)

Do Yourself a Favour ? Put an End to Capitalism!
During the past few months the world has been rocked by a financial crisis that has attracted a lot of comment. While we get a kick out of the speculators’ and stockholders’ agony, we need to keep an eye on where the crisis is heading and on its impact in the real world. What crisis? More importantly; who’s crisis? The workers at Renault Sandouville are affected, sure, the American workers who have lost their capitalized pensions, of course, the 40 000 extra unemployed, yes, in fact; all (...)

France : Pushing back the age of retirement; just how far will they go?
The National Assembly has adopted an amendment to the draft law on financing social security (the "PLFSS") for 2009 that will authorize workers to "voluntarily" work up to the age of 70 rather than to the current 65 years. The five extra years will count towards pensions. The UMP tells us that "it is no longer acceptable that men or women of 65 are forced into retirement against their wills, just because of their age, even when they have not paid enough into the fund to draw a full (...)
